What Are the Causes of Poverty in Third World Countries?

The stressors I want to address in this blog is poverty and hunger. I chose these two stressors because I know many children has been affected or is still going to through poverty and hunger in various part of the world until this day. I remember growing with five sibling, uncles and aunt who was a couple years old than I; because my grandmother died at an early age. My mother has to raise 10 children between the ages of 18 years old to infancy. I believe it was hard for my mom and dad since only one person in the house was working. I remember there was a time when mother made a meal with little or nothing. We definitely did have leftovers. There was also a time where nothing was in the cabinet or refrigerator and we went to food pantry for help. My family and I went through are hard times only for a few years, but what about children who has to go through poverty and hunger all their life since they been living on this earth.
I think about these children who have been affected by poverty and hunger in those third world countries. Due to lack of funding children are dying from hunger every 3.6 seconds according to the United Nations International Children’s Emergency. According to the United Nations International Children’s Emergency statistics show that approximately 14 to 20 percent of the U.S population also lives in poverty.  Poverty is the lack of ability to provide for minimum survival needs, such as living expenses, food and shelter.

Children who are face with malnutrition can affect my future work by being effective to the way children will be able to learn and the way I am teaching. I believe if children's mind are constantly focus on will they have food when they get home or how hungry they is a that moment; it will be hard as a teacher to keep their attention during a teachable moment. I believe children learns and can focus better when they are provide with a well- balance nutritional meal at least three time a day.

Malnutrition

The public health topic I choose from the list above is malnutrition. Malnutrition means bad nutrition.  I chose the topic malnutrition because there are so many children in the world who are or have experience this type of health issue in their life. Not only can malnutrition be a detriment to a child’s health, but it can hinder their learning, growth and development. I believe children should not have to worry about where their next meal is coming from each day of their life especially; when they are trying to learn in school. I feel it is the parent responsible whether to worry about making sure their child get the food they need for nutrition of their bodies.

I have research the public health problem of malnutrition in the Philippines. Malnutrition is the biggest problem the Philippines is facing. In the Philippines over the past four years it was reported that the number of children were reported to have been underweight, due to the large increase in their food prices. In other words the increase in food price made it difficult for the poor people in Philippines to eat, causing children to be diagnosing underweight. In 2005, there were approximately 3.5 children under the age of 5 years and under was reported to be underweight. Lack of nutrition makes it easy for children to get infections, because their bodies don’t have enough food intakes to keep them nutrition and their metabolism built up.  I believe it is essential in order for children to be healthy they need the proper food intake, vitamins and the adequate amount of sleep in their bodies on a daily basis.

Childbirth In Your Life and Around the World

The most recent birthing experience I had was the birth of my first grandson.  My grandson whom I call doodlebug was born on January 12 with the weight of 4lbs 15oz. This was a day my entire life had changed.  Not only, did I experience this wonderful feeling of being a proud grandmother, but that was the day I became part of the glamour-mom committee at my job; among co-worker who was all grandmothers. The morning of January 12th me and my daughter woke up in a hospital room where we spent two there already. The nurse came in and told us that she came in to prep my daughter for the birth of her baby.  I was so happy, because the time had finally come, even though the baby was coming prematurely. All of a sudden my big smile faded away with the thought it is really happening. My stomach started hurt, bubbling and turning with the reality of watching the tears roll down my daughter cheek. The nurse came in to take my daughter to the delivery room but just before they left out; the nurse gave me a funny white scrub that was called a bunny suit to put on to eliminate germs. Five minutes I pass after the nurse and my daughter had left for the delivering room. The nurse came in to get me. The nervous within me started getting worse until I seen my daughter was ok. Less than ten minutes after entering the delivering room I hear a small voice echoing for behind a blue curtain that stood between me/ my daughter upper body  and my daughter stomach on down. I looked at my daughter and she looked at me and at the same time we started laughing with joy. One nurse who came from behind the curtain with a baby boy who entire body seem to be covered with a white powder and water.  After everything was over I was told by the nurse to follow her as she took the baby to the nursery; where there was over baby who was born prior to my grandson birth.
The place I chosen to talk about their child birth is Australia. In Australia it was Birth & midwifery article reported one in every woman delivery their baby by cesarean section. The mother to be was told it was necessary to deliver their baby C-section. After giving birth by cesarean section most of the women suffer postnatal depression.
There are expecting women in the United States who has either had a cesarean section or about too. My personal experience I am a mother of three girls and one boy who was all delivered by cesarean section. I was considered high risk since the very first pregnancy. When I reach the 7 month of my pregnancy my baby was in distress, which was a sign of complication. I was rushed in the labor and delivery room where the doctor did an emergency C-section, which prevented me from having future vaginal birth. There is a myth saying a woman can only have 3 cesarean section. To my surprise the doctor I had told me it depends on how well a woman heal after a C-section; she can have many delivery by C-section.
